Where is the security? 13 million MapleStory player accounts revealed

Are you a MapleStory player? Are you a Mapler in Korea? If your answers are positive, well, you need to worry about you – especially your Maplestory account. There was something bad happened to Maplestory last week. Guess most Maplers have known that. Lots of Maplers’ accounts are at stake. Yes, again, it was the result of the infamous hackers.

But for the famously hacked Sony, it could be a good chance to have a sympathetic shoulder this week. Nexon recently discovered a massive breach that's exposed over 13 million MapleStory player accounts to cyber ne'er-do-wells. We could imagine how much damage would be created to Nexon and to those Maplestroy players. Not only Nexon will lose so much money, but also the trust from players will be affected. And so does Maplestroy players. They might feel lucky that they weren’t Sony’s subscribers at that time. However, they never thought that misfortune occurs to them so soon even they haven’t prepared for it. Fortunately for some though, discovered this past Thursday, the breach was solely limited to South Korea, as Nexon hosts separate countries on their own servers. Only wish they have successfully separated the servers and could prevent the bad behavior in some extent.

So, under such a serious gaming environment, any South Korean MapleStory player's information is at risk, including user IDs, names, passwords, and residential registration numbers. We all know that the importance of those personal information. This information could potentially be stolen and used for a variety of crimes. If that really happened, the massive effect on player’s life will far beyond our imagination. Maybe we should be optimistic, maybe things haven’t turned to so bad, and maybe there is still a solution to stop the info revealing.

And fact is, there's been no word whether actual personal information has been stolen. Nevertheless, for insurance purposes, Nexon urged these 13+ million subscribers to change their passwords. That could be an alarm, for all Maplers and also to other games players. The company has contacted the police to ask for a formal investigation. We will wait and see.

This misfortune comes at an unfortunate time for the company, as Nexon is poised to present its IPO on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in December. Now the breach happened, and as far as I concerned, this issue will impact the IPO performance more or less. Well, now I believe that plan can’t come up with change forever.

These kind of hacking issues inform us that no matter how we feel safe right now, we should keep alert all the time. At least, alert won’t be harmful for us if we handle it well. Giving you an example, while you decide to buy MapkeStory mesos or items online, firstly, you will think how and where to get the cheap but safe mesos/items soon. Then if there is someone who tells you that he’s from the store that once you bought mesos there and now want you to give the gold back but return you some extra gold. It’s already a common practice for gold hacking. So you should be alarmed.

But if you place your MapleStory mesos/items order on SwagVault.com, you would never be asked to give back your mesos. Here is providing customers with the most reassuring service but with lowest price in the virtual currency market. So, log in
